​He was called the Box Ajussi(Mister).

 

Setting out with his handcart at dawn until sunset

He would go from neighborhood to neighborhood
Loading up boxes pressed and stacked.

No one knew where he came from or when

But he liked children

 

And occasionally bought them ice cream

So the children and neighbors simply
Called him Box Ajussi.

 

At some point
He was often seen sitting and resting
With his handcart parked on the roadside

 

On a day in August 2021

 

In a small semi-basement room where even sunlight didn't reach

He fell asleep and never woke up.

 

They say on his head, unaware he had had a stroke,

There was still a pain relief patch

Its smell not yet faded.

He was classified as the 19th

unclaimed deceased person of 2021

 

With the name "21/19"

Spray-painted as his epitaph

 

He was buried in a sunny,

 

high place.

그는 박스 아저씨로 불렸다.

 

동이 틀 때쯤 리어카를 끌고 나가

해가 질 때까지

 

이 동네 저 동네를 돌며

켜켜이 눌러 쌓은 박스를 싣고 다녔다.

 

언제 어디서 왔는지

아는 이는 없었지만

아이들을 좋아해

 

가끔 아이스크림을 사 주었던 그를

아이들과 동네 사람들은 그저

박스아저씨로 불렀다.

 

언제 부터 인가

길가에 리어카를 세워 놓고 앉아

쉬는 모습을 많이 보였다는 그는

 

2021년 8월 어느 날

 

해도 들지 않는 작은 반지하 방에서

잠에 들고는 깨지 못했다.

 

뇌졸증 인지도 몰랐던

아저씨의 머리에는 아직

 

냄새가 가시지 않은 파스가 붙어있었다고 한다.

 

그는 2021년의 19번째

무연고 사망자로 분류되어

 

“21/19” 라는

라커로 뿌려진 묘비명으로

 

해가 좋고 높은 곳에 묻혔다.
