“지금 나 또는 우리는 어떠한 삶을 살아가고 있는가”
“지금 내가 살아가는 이 사회는 어떠한 모습으로 숨쉬는가”
작업은 지극히 개인적인 이야기에서 시작되었다
작가는 항상 현재의 삶에서 벗어나려했고 몇번이고 맨손으로 땅을 갈아엎으며 외롭고 빈곤한 시작을 감내하는 삶을 지속했다
시작은 항상 고된 고독을 이겨내야하는 순환을 반복했고, 그것은 작가생활을 시작함으로 정점을 찍었다. 손끝 하나 움직일 수 없이 어둠 속에 웅크린 채 희미하게 빛이 새어 들어오는 틈을 통해 가늘게 숨을 쉬는 듯한 시간들 속에서, 어떠한 이상을 향해 끊임 없이 사투하는 삶의 모습들과 내적 또는 외적인 요인으로 가두어진 열망과 감정들을 시각화하는 작업들을 진행하였다.
이것은 지금을 살아가는 모든 삶의 모습들과 같은 궤를 그리는 것이었기에 작가의 작업은 개인적인 이야기에서 확장되어 나와 함께 이 시대를 살아가는 다양한 삶의 모습들을 들여다보며, 그 이야기들을 꺼내어 마주하려는 작업으로 이어진다.
가까이 나의 친구와 가족들에서부터 출발하여 목소리를 잃고 망각되어가는 삶의 이야기들을 수집하는 리서치를 시작으로 작업을 구성해나간다
이야기의 객관적인 기록은 영상작업으로 이어지고 그 과정에서 수합되어지는 삶의 흔적들을 선별하여 작업의 재료로 적용함으로서 내러티브의 시각화를 완성해나간다
예로 2020년 상반기 부산에서 진행한 작업은 근대 수리조선 1번지였으나 현재 쇠퇴의 길을 걷고 있는 대평동(현재 남항동) 내의 산업 근로자와 주민들을 리서치하며, 그 과정에서 산업현장에 무수히 떨어져있는 부산물을 수합하고 정제하여 얻어진 순수한 철가루를 작업의 재료로 사용한다.
폐기되어지는 부산물을 재료로 선별하는 과정의 노동 또한 작가의 작업에 있어 중요한 부분으로, 생산 과정에서 1차적인 변형을 거쳐 폐기되어지는 부산물들을 수차례의 선별과정을 거쳐 작업에 적용하며 그것의 가치를 재창조하는 것 또한, 존재하나 존재가치가 망각되어지는 이야기들의 가치확인의 과정으로서 의미가 있기 때문이다
선별된 재료는 설치를 구성하는 입체물 또는 페인팅의 재료로서 직접적으로 사용되어지기도 하며(참고이미지A-Breath-forest of oblivion), 그것이 가진 상징성 자체로 물성을 보존하여 사용하기도 한다.(참고이미지B-Breath-Lifescape)

존재하나 잊혀지고 목소리를 잃은 사람의 이야기들을 시각화하여 그 삶의 주체들과 공유함과 동시에 현재 이 사회를 함께 살아가고 있는 다양한 사람들과 그 가치들을 확인하고 이해하려는 노력들이 작업의 시작점이다.
이것은 불안이나 공포 등의 보편화된 감정들에 대한 형상화와 빈곤층 또는 신체적 감정적 약자나 다양한 형태의 소수 계층 등의 집단에 대한 현실과 강자와 약자의 관계 속에서 야기되는 사회적인 이슈 등의 사회 전반적인 이야기를 근간으로 작업을 확장하여 진행한다.
이러한 이야기들을 공론화하며 함께 소통하면서 우리 사회에 존재하는 다수의 이야기들을 기억하고 확인하는 과정을 통해 “지금, 여기 나와 우리” 에 대한 현재의 시의적인 질문들을 던지고자하며, 그 과정에서 존재가치를 서로 확인하는 과정과 좀 더 발전적이고 희망에의 기대가 존재하는 내일에 대한 믿음을 발견하고자한다.
예술가의 사회적 공헌과 그것의 가능성을 믿고 외면하고 잊으려했던 현실을 대면하며 감정적으로나마 현실에 개입하기를 바라며, 그러한 과정과 결과가 지속성과 시의성을 가질 수 있도록 현재에 대한 리서치와 매체에 대한 다양한 연구를 지속하고자한다
이러한 고민들은 결과물을 이야기의 주체들과 다시 직접적으로 만나고 소통하는 공공미술로의 확장으로 이어지며,(참고이미지C-Breath-floating 2020) 특정 지역에 대한 연구와 작업 또한 함께 이어나간다.
삶의 현장 안에서 현재의 삶에 대해 이야기하는 예술, 척박하고 차가운 현실 안에서 의지와 희망을 이야기하고 삶의 가치를 확인하고 공유할 수 있는 예술. 이것이 작가로서 살아가고자하는 기대이자 동력이다.

“What kind of life do I or we live now?”
“How does this society that we are living in now breathe?”
The work began with a very personal story.
I always tried to escape from my present life and continued to endure a lonely and impoverished beginning, plowing the ground with my bare hands several times.
The beginning always repeated the cycle of overcoming hard solitude, and it culminated in the beginning of life of an artist
Through the time of breathing thinly through a gap of faint light, crouching in the dark, unable to move even a fingertip, my work was carried out to visualize the incessant struggle of life toward any ideal and the aspirations and emotions trapped by internal or external factors.
That was to draw the same ark as all the life scenes that are living now, so my work become extends from my personal story to look into the various life forms that live with me in this era, and bring up the stories and face them.
My work starting from my friends and family, and I start with research to collect stories of various life that lose their voice and forgotten.
Recording of the life stories leads to video work and completes the visualization of narratives by selecting traces of life that are collected in the process and applying them as materials for work.
For example, the work in Busan in the first half of 2020 was carried out from Daepyoung-dong ( Now, namhang-dong)in yeongdo where was the important site of the modern repair shipyard but have gone down.
The pure iron powder obtained by collecting and refining numerous byproducts from the floor of industrial factory is used as a material for the work.
The labor of selecting discarded byproducts as materials is also an important part of the artist's work, because it is meaningful to re-create the value of the byproducts that are discarded through primary transformations in the production process after several processes, as well as to confirm the value of stories that exist but are forgotten.
The selected materials are sometimes used directly as materials for the stereoscopic objects or painting that make up the installation (reference imge A : Breath-forest of oblivion), or as the symbolism itself (reference image B-Breath-Lifecape).

Efforts to visualize and share the stories of those who exist but have forgotten and lost their voices with the life's subjects, while identifying and understanding the values of the various people and people living together in this society are the starting points of the work.
And it expands to the overall social story, including the embodiment of generalized emotions such as anxiety and fear, the reality of groups of poor or physically or emotionally weak or various forms of minority, and social issues arising in the relationship between the strong and the weak
Through the process of publicizing and communicating these stories together and remembering and confirming the many stories that exist in our society, we would like to ask current timely questions about "now, here and us," and in the process, we would find faith in the process of verifying each other's value and in tomorrow which have more advanced and hopeful expectation.
I believe contribution of the artist to the society that i live. And want to people Facing the social reality that they has tried to ignore and forget, and want to they intervene emotionally, and to continue my research on the present and media so that such processes and results can be sustained and timely.
These subject lead to the expansion of the outcome into public art through the art itself meets and communicates directly with the subject of the stories. (reference image C : Breath-Floating 2020) And also do work for research and the society, culture, and environment of certain regions.
I believe the art to talking about the present life in the field of life, and to talking about the will and hope in the barren and cold reality, and identifying and sharing the value of life. This is the expectation and power of living as an artist.
